A loose tooth can have several causes: periodontitis, infection, trauma, or an old crown that no longer protects as it should. Each situation needs a separate evaluation.
Sometimes the tooth can be stabilised with periodontal treatment, subgingival cleaning, and careful follow-up. Other times, mobility shows that too much bone has been lost and saving it is no longer realistic.
Important: delaying does not make the tooth more stable. Infection can progress, and extraction can become harder. A clear, staged plan tells you what is worth trying and how long it makes sense to wait.
